SAINT SAVIOR PRIORY
Priory built in the 11th century and featuring an cross-vaulted crypt in Melun.
Built in the 11th century by Robert II the Pious, as the statue representing him with the monks suggests, the Saint-Sauveur priory was subsequently ravaged before being rebuilt in the 15th century and transformed during the Renaissance. Abandoned in the 17th century, it was used as a salt storehouse before being sold during the Revolution as a national asset. The oldest part of the church, the vaulted crypt, dates from the 11th century, as does the nave with its ribbed vaults resting on 13th century capitals. Closed to the public, it is however visible from the outside, adjacent to a small square.
