CHÂTEAU ROYAL DE MONTCEAUX-LÈS-MEAUX
The ruins of a remarkable château set in a picturesque landscape at Montceaux, a site steeped in history.
The château, which dates back to the 12th century, was built in the 15th century by a certain Saligot or Saligaut, lord of Montceaux and Montretout, before being purchased in 1555 by Henri II, who presented it to his wife, Catherine de Médicis. Later, in 1596, Henri IV presented it to his favorite, Gabrielle d'Estrées. In 1599, Marie de Médicis became its owner. At the end of the 17th century, the château was deserted and destroyed. All that remains of the château are ruins.
