SAINT-OUEN CASTLE
Built in 1822 by Louis XVIII for his mistress, the Countess of Du, this is one of the few examples of sober and elegant construction, typical of the Restoration. This architectural style includes elements inherited from ancient antiquity of elements of Renaissance style. Inside, the rooms have a refined décor, with an abundance of polychrome marbles, stucco and precious wood. The ubiquitous floral motif on tapestries characterizes the ornamental style of the Restoration: chairs, benches and sofas were covered with drapery adorned with this type. On the first floor were the apartments of the countess who kept their original provision. The castle presents paintings, drawings, prints, documents and objects telling local history, as well as collections of artists such as Bourdelle, Léger, Richier… Temporary exhibitions, concerts and conferences are also active. The Abel Mézières Park surrounding the castle is also regularly the theatre of cultural events. There are modern sculptures.
