Based in France, this pay-per-view news website is one of the few serious sources of information on the region in French. It focuses on current events in Bulgaria and other Balkan countries through articles translated from the peninsula's press and reports by members of the editorial staff. It was founded in 1998 by French journalist and historian Jean-Arnault Dérens. This specialist in the former Yugoslavia is still the site's editor-in-chief. Courrier des Balkans collaborates with other media including Mediapart, Le Monde diplomatique and RFI.
