MAC VAL - MUSÉE D'ART CONTEMPORAIN DU VAL-DE-MARNE
The MAC/VAL, a must-see contemporary art museum in the Val-de-Marne.
The main vocation of the Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne, more commonly known as the MAC/VAL - an acronym that is much easier to remember - is to make a commitment to culture in the heart of a difficult area. Built by the architect Jacques Ripault and inaugurated in 2005, the museum has more than 1,600 works of art and the collection reflects the creativity of the French art scene from the 1950s to the present day, with paintings, performances, installations and other creations. The rooms are subject to regularly renewed thematic hangings and temporary monographic or collective exhibitions are organized three to four times a year. In 2022, the exhibition "À mains nues" devoted to the future to be created, and the exhibition "Modern Lovers" which is part of the avant-garde art, are all appointments of the moment. Airy and vast, the place is as sober as it is elegant, leaving the works to draw all the attention to themselves. Film screenings, shows, animations for young audiences, workshops for children and adults are also on the program. For families, a booklet-game "Le Bon plan" has been created to visit the place in a fun and independent way. Note that the Musée d'Art Contemporain du Val-de-Marne also houses a documentation center, a bookstore and a restaurant. Finally, a beautiful park - also contemporary - adjoins the place. Exhibitions are regularly organized there.
