NOTRE-DAME ABBEY
Today, there are only ruins of this Argenteuil high. Founded in the viith century (the first mention made by 697), this abbey originally housed a community of Benedictines dedicated to Saint Mary. In the twelfth century, his flourishing activities, particularly related to the production of wine, encouraged Suger, the abbot of Saint-Denis, to do everything to take it. He succeeded in claiming that Héloses, the former companion of Abelard and Abrard of the place, was leading a scandalous life to the monials, triggering an outcry, while the abbey became a priory of men. In the Revolution, she was declared national property and served as a stone quarry. Archeological excavations conducted between 1989 and 1994 revealed a crypt and an exceptional pavement of the xiiith and XIV centuries, now classified and added to the rich heritage of the city. In 2016, the place had two particularly intense weeks: the 150 th anniversary of the Basilica of Saint-Denys, the 50 years of the Diocese of Pontoise and the jubilee of the Mercy gave rise to many celebrations, bringing together 200,000 people in two weeks.
