SAINT-DENYS BASILICA
This néoromane basilica is the work of Theodore Ballu, architect of the Trinity church and Paris city Hall. Built between 1862 and 1865 on a map of the Latin cross, it has a bell tower that rises over 57 m. Originally church, it became basilica in 1898. Large organs, manufactured by Suret in 1867 and recently restored, are one of the main pieces of its heritage. You can see also Charlemagne brings the Holy Tunic to the abbey of Argenteuil, a painting by Friedrich Bouterwerk (1851) that recounts the arrival in Argenteuil of a tunic that would have worn Christ. Legend tells that Irene de Byzantium transmitted her to his daughter Théodrade, Abbess of Argenteuil in 800, by the good care of the emperor. The painting orne the chapel which houses the reliquary altar of the Holy Tunic. Outside the building is the chevet of the Mirabeau family, the famous 1789 Révolutionnaire.
