ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST CHAPEL
This small and charming building is one of the rare examples of Romanesque chapel still in Île-de-France. And its history has married the meanders of the last thousand years of our country! A square plan with three neves, this dependence of the Abbey Notre-Dame was founded in 1003, the year of reconstruction of the abbatial ensemble. Sold to a winemaker in the seventeenth century, she served as a cellar and thus escaped the national sale that struck the rest of the abbey during the Revolution. Classified at Historic Monuments in 1945, it was acquired by the city in the 1970 s and was restored in 1985. The whole, impressive though a small size, deserves a detour.
