CAREERS
The stone extracted from these quarries was used to build many of the region's structures
Of excellent reputation, the stone extracted from these quarries was used for the construction of many buildings in the region: Sainte-Christine church of the Célestins de Limay priory, medieval ramparts of Mantes and the three hundred voussoirs of the Mantes bridge in the 18th century. The material was of such quality that it was used to build the Madeleine church, the Arc de Triomphe and the horses of the Iéna bridge in Paris. The extraction, which employed a hundred quarrymen in the 1830s, was abandoned on the eve of the Second World War.
