Beautiful wooden pontoons rehabilitated in Eragny, offering a real coup in terms of environmental preservation
This is an itinerary that you can follow upstream and downstream from Eragny, but which takes on a very special appearance here. A bit of history: for a long time left to their own devices, the banks of the Oise have, here, undergone a real metamorphosis with the arrival of the railway in Pontoise, in the 19th century. Just think: Parisians could come here to find all the leisure activities that were logically impossible along the Seine. There were plenty of "guinguettes" and hotels, which made Eragny a city of leisure and amusement. For decades, fishermen have paced the banks of the Oise, while others danced, feasted, and even bathed. The locals were not left out, and as good locals joined in the fun. Then, little by little, the banks were abandoned: their charm remained intact, but easier transportation and the aspirations of Parisians led them to push to the sea. Very degraded, the banks have been the subject, in the 2010s, of a vast rehabilitation. And what a result: plant engineering work has been carried out here, giving nature a predominant place, promoting green and particularly pleasant paths. Pretty wooden pontoons adorn the whole, which can be covered on foot or by bike, because here, logically, there is no difference in level! A real favourite for this site, which is exemplary in terms of environmental preservation.
