Warm and friendly café-restaurant-bistro with terrace in Pauillac.
On the small square in the hamlet of Bages, the warm and friendly Café Lavinal serves traditional, tasty market cuisine, made with local, seasonal produce. You'll fall under the spell of its zinc and red 1930s-style banquettes, which give it the air of a bistro from yesteryear, attracting locals, tourists and winegrowers alike. Open Monday to Thursday for lunch; Friday and Saturday for lunch and dinner. Closed from mid-December to February. Menus from €29 to €45. A la carte menu: approx. €50. Children's menu: €13. Wine by the glass. Winegrower's menu: €21 (starter + main course / main course + dessert). Terrace. Wifi. Air-conditioning. Bar.
Owner's Message
Opened in 2006, in the center of the village of Bages, the Café Lavinal takes its name from
Berthe Lavinal, the grandmother of Jean-Michel Cazes.
A wink to the vacations of his childhood spent in the small country café of his parents near Villeneuve-sur-Lot.
Adjacent to the Château Lynch-Bages, the Café Lavinal is a privileged place where the wine growers and the local clientele like to meet to share a generous cuisine in the heart of the terroir of the Grands Crus Classés of Pauillac.
Warm and friendly, our restaurant is open for lunches, aperitifs and dinners. We offer traditional and tasty market cuisine, prepared with local products.
During the summer season, our sunny terrace is appreciated for its view and its location.
The wine list presents more than 220 references of wines from Bordeaux and elsewhere.
The Enoline wine by the glass service allows you to discover up to 8 red wines (in 2cl, 6cl or 12cl)

Service minimum, le personnel ne sait pas qui prend quoi afin de mettre les couverts adéquats, pas de pain mis sur table, traces de doigts sur les bords d’assiettes, apprentissage et technique de service des vins non acquis.
Salle plutôt bruyante, fond musical désagréable, jolis éclairages…pleins de moucherons et divers insectes. Partie bar totalement vide, non exploitée, et sans décoration.
Toilettes vétustes et mal entretenues.
Rapport qualité prix honnête pour les menus.

They have a cool feature in that you can purchase a small volume wine. (We called them "samplers")
So we ordered most of them!! Great fun.
My only issue was my wife ordered the snails. She became violently ill 2-3 hours afterwards. Extremely sick for most of the night.
This was the only difference in what we both ate. I must assume the cause was poorly prepared or otherwise tainted food
A shame but hopefully an exception to an otherwise lovely restaurant.
