STANZA CASTLE
A large part of the building was destroyed during a bombing in 1944. Nevertheless, this pleasure castle, built in the 18th century, has retained the charm desired by one of its first owners, the Prince of Conti. The chapel, founded in the 13th century, was for a long time dedicated to lepers. In addition to the buildings of the castle with its classic architecture, the property has beautiful terraced gardens. They were redesigned in the mid-18th century by the architect Constant d'Ivry, who installed basins, underground rooms, a rose garden and a Chinese pavilion. Planted with majestic trees, they were decorated in the 19th century with greenhouses where roses, pepper, tea and vanilla trees grew.
