CABOUILLET DECK
Solidly placed on its three arches, nicely patinated by the years, the Cabouillet bridge connects Île de la Cohue (where rights of way and crossings were formerly paid) to the shore of L'Isle-Adam. Nearby, a bronze Ondine with sharp contours emerges from the shimmering water. It is the little mermaid Evila, work by the Belgian sculptor Marie-Josée Aerts (1990). The name of this bridge built at the beginning of the 16th century reminds us that people used to come here to "cabouiller" the water, i. e. to scramble it in order to better bait the fish. If we still observe them today, the places are also surprising by the abundance of ragondins that walk or swim there. Today, car traffic on the bridge remains very high, although in recent years, improvements have made it possible to make the bridge a little more accessible to pedestrians.
