MONTMORENCY FOREST
The Montmorency forest is located in the north of the municipality and extends over 2,200 ha. It is one of the three large forest blocks in Val-d 'Oise, with the forests of Carnelle and L' Isle-Adam. Former property of Montmorency and then Condé, it became part of the state only since 1933, thanks to a policy of acquisition of the state. Since then, the forest ensemble has regained strength, and the fudges of chestnut trees that made its reputation have reappeared. Despite urban pressure, the forest remains a major massif and is part of the green belt of Île-de-France. Covering three hills, it offers rolling walking paths; its basement has the largest gypsum deposit in Europe. In her midst is the Château de la Chasse, a construction of the xiith century which welcomed many of the game's kings and beads. Finally, in clear weather, there is a wonderful view on the northern suburbs (the lake of Enghien in particular) and beyond the capital, from Sacré Coeur to the towers of Defense.
