PONTOISE CARMEL
Carmel of Pontoise, where about twenty boarders live cloistered, offering a visit to discover the courtyard and the chapel
This Carmel was founded in 1605 by the Spanish Mothers, at the instigation of Mme Acarie, a married woman and mother of six children who entered the Carmel of Amiens as a simple lay sister before coming to Pontoise. This was the second Carmel created in France. Most of the buildings date from the time of its foundation. About twenty boarders live there cloistered, so the visit is limited to the discovery of the courtyard and the chapel. The white marble statue of Mme Acarie at prayer, given by Marie de Médicis, is worth seeing.
