FRANCONVILLE CASTLE
The castle of the Duke of Massa, also known as the castle of Franconville-au-Boisa, is attached to an estate with a very ancient history
The castle of the Duke of Massa, known as the castle of Franconville-au-Boisa, is part of a very old estate, once belonging to the abbey of Saint-Denis and mentioned in an inventory of 832. Having become a seigneury, Franconville passed through the hands of several families. The elegant building of today was built in 1880 by Hippolyte Destailleurs, inspired by the 17th century château of Maisons-Laffitte. Part of the property is listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments. The watchtower now houses the tourist office.
