L'HÔTEL DU HEAUME
Remains of the former Hôtel du Heaume, visited by William the Conqueror according to legend, of which only a porch remains.
The remains of this mansion evoke the Ablis of the Middle Ages, where the lords of Gallardon and Auneau, as well as numerous monasteries - Poigny, Notre-Dame-de-Cléry - once held fiefdoms. According to local legend, William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy, stayed here in the 11th century. Today, all that remains are a few sections of wall and a beautiful, massive opening giving access to the annexed, round-arched schoolhouse near the former presbytery (now the Maison des Associations).
