ANCIENT CEMETERIES AND MEROVINGIAN CROSSES
An stone cross, discovered in the old Andrésy cemetery alongside 492 Merovingian graves.
Dating back to the 11th century, a Merovingian stone cross stands in the town's old cemetery. Listed as a historic monument, the stele was discovered in 1890 during work on the railway line linking Paris and Mantes. Covering an area of around half a hectare, 492 Merovingian burials (31 stone sarcophagi, 402 late 6th or 7th century molded plaster sarcophagi, 59 bare earth burials) and the remains of some 600 individuals were uncovered.
