LE FORT DU TROU D'ENFER
One of the 18 forts in Bailly's second Paris protection belt.
Fort du Trou d'Enfer lies in the heart of the Marly national forest. The plain has been classified as a natural site since 1932, with remarkable biodiversity. Built between 1878-81, this edifice is one of the 18 forts in Paris' second protective belt. It also provided logistical support for the Marly forest batteries. In 1916, it housed the first French tank trials and the Tank Crew Training Center. Demilitarized in 1962 and entrusted to the Office National des Forêts (ONF) for management of the presidential hunting grounds.
