A park that showcases French garden design expertise
Les Jardins de Mlle de La Vallière recall forbidden stories: the château is said to have sheltered the love affairs of the young woman and Louis XIV, whose favorite she was. She stayed here between 1661 and 1670, before renouncing the world and entering the Carmelite order. The design of the château's green spaces was entrusted to Le Nôtre, who in turn asked his nephew Desgoffes to oversee the layout of the gardens. The French savoir-faire can still be seen here: basins and landings create deep perspectives that sweep down to the Seine below.
