Garden with 20 ornamental pavilions (7 of which can still be seen today) that refer to different civilizations.
Designed by François Racine de Monville, the Desert de Retz is a kind of small paradise on earth that invites contemplation. Bordering the forest of Marly, this 40-hectare garden is an enchantment, with ornamental pavilions and 20 fabriques referencing different civilizations. Over time, the site changed ownership several times and fell into disrepair, before being classified as a Historic Monument. Open to the public for guided and self-guided tours, major restoration work is still underway to safeguard this heritage treasure.
