JACQUES ANQUETIL STELE
Commemorative stele paying tribute to the famous racing cyclist Jacques Anquetil, at the top of Côte de la Trinité in Châteaufort
At the crossroads of two departmental roads, at the top of the Côte de la Trinité, stands a stele paying tribute to the famous racing cyclist Jacques Anquetil. Anquetil, nine-time winner of the Grand Prix des Nations, used to come out on top at the top of this very hill - Châteaufort is a regular venue for the Tour de France. In 1989, two years after his death, the Friends of the Tour de France erected a bronze sculpture here, which was soon stolen. All that remains today is the stele and commemorative plaque.
