ÎLE DES IMPRESSIONNISTES
This island was once very popular with Impressionist painters, who came here to paint their now-famous pictures. Tours.
Located between Chatou and Rueil-Malmaison, l'île des Impressionnistes owes its name to the painters who came to set up their easels here to paint its landscapes in the 19th century: Sisley, Renoir, Monet, Degas, Caillebotte, Courbet and Manet. It was once separated into two islets, the main one with its hamlet of La Fournaise, and the smaller Ile du Chiard, now home to the Parc des Impressionnistes. An ideal place for a stroll, the island is criss-crossed by cycle paths and is also the starting point for cultural tours.
