MONTGOMERY FAMILY MAUSOLEUM
The damaged mausoleum of the Montgomery family, a place steeped in history, located in Chevreuse, on the Claireau hill.
At the end of the 19th century, the Montgomery family bought the 93-hectare Claireau estate to build a château. When the Earl Montgomery of Pembroke died in 1900, his widow had a large tomb built for him, in the form of a small temple inspired by ancient architecture. Today, this atypical mausoleum can still be admired in the Claireau forest, albeit in a very damaged state. The château was built in 1904 and demolished in the 1970s.
