MUSEUM OF ANCIENT SPARTERIE
Founded in 1839, Sparterie - manufacture of vegetable fibre objects - Maison Lemaire has developed an industry whose technical know-how has been globally recognized among textile manufacturers for 135 years. Installed on the site of the disused factory since 1974, the museum of the Old Sparterie, inaugurated in 1994, proposes to discover this old profession, through the tools used to implement it, but also of several works braided in alfa or sparta - perennial herbaceous plant - or even in vegetable crin. The site also houses an archaeological collection which offers historical lighting on the heritage of Dammartin-en-Serve (Neolithic occupations, Gallo-Roman habitation, etc.). On the old industrial site, the museum cohabiting with a library, a concert and reception room, workshops and housing. A didactic, original and instructive visit.
