DAVID TEMPLE
France's oldest Masonic temple, located in the château grounds and celebrating the Franco-American alliance of 1776.
The Temple de David, hidden away at the far end of the château grounds, owes its name to the painter Jacques-Louis David, who drew up the plans. Built to celebrate the signing of the treaty of alliance between France and the United States in 1776, it has played host to a number of famous politicians: Benjamin Franklin, Robespierre during the drafting of the 1791 Constitution, and Michel Debré in 1958 during the drafting of the Constitution of theFifth Republic . Classified as a historic monument in 1947, it was restored on the initiative of the town and the Fondation du Patrimoine.
