EPOSNEUM CASTLE
Built in the century and destroyed at the end of the Second World War, Château d'Épône is now limited to the outbuildings.
Built in the 17th century on the remains of an earlier castle, it was destroyed by the German army on August 18, 1944. All that remains today are the outbuildings, which now house a cultural center. Its wooded park can be visited all year round, and features an English garden at its center, as well as the Temple of David. The place is famous for its last lord, Marie-Jean Hérault de Séchelles, who helped draft the first Constitution, as well as the Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen, before being guillotined in 1794.
