THE HOLY CROSS CHURCH
A small listed church with a remarkable brick bell tower, a must-see address in Fourqueux.
Listed as a Monument Historique in 1946, this small church was built in the 12th century by the lord of Fourqueux, on the site of an earlier 7th-century wooden chapel. It owes its name to fragments of the cross that Saint Louis is said to have brought back from the crusades in 1241. During the Hundred Years' War, a fire destroyed part of the nave. The church underwent several modifications over the centuries, including the construction of a new bell tower in 1840. As the latter was too heavy for the building, it was replaced in 1969 by the present brick bell tower.
