THE VICTOR-HUGO HOUSE
The house that sheltered Victor Hugo and his family, as well as his reconciliation with Alexandre Dumas; then Henri Maret's studio.
Victor Hugo and his family stayed here in the summer of 1836, and it is said that his daughter Léopoldine made her First Communion in the church of Sainte-Croix. The house is also said to have been the site of his reconciliation with Alexandre Dumas, after a quarrel lasting several years. In 1918, the house was bought by painter Henri Maret. For 40 years, he worked in his studio, located in the park beside the house. Specializing in decorative painting, he was inspired by Fourqueux, and many of his works have remained in the commune.
