STONE BRIDGE HOUSE
This house in Jouy-en-Josas, opposite the town hall, is a highly symbolic location, housing the music conservatory.
This charming rustic house is a highly symbolic place, since it was here that Oberkampf printed the first toile de Jouy on May1, 1760, taking advantage of the nearby Bièvre River. The following year, he produced over 3,000 pieces. A second house had to be rented to house the factory, as well as land to build a shed and install the equipment. In 1835, Mme Mallet bought the house to set up an asylum, the forerunner of nursery schools, for children aged 3 to 6.
