SAINT GERMAIN CHURCH

Built at the end of the 12th century, Saint-Germain church owes its name to the abbot of Saint-Germain-des-Prés, who ceded the land on which it stood. Ravaged during the Hundred Years' War, it was reborn in 1805 and new aisles were built in 1857. Miss Howard is buried in the local cemetery: Elisabeth-Ann Aryet fell in love with Louis-Napoléon during his exile in London, and later settled in Paris, where she received the title of Countess and the Beauregard estate from Napoléon III.
