ÉTANG DES NOËS
A pond that once fed the Château de Versailles, now a popular walking and fishing spot in Mesnil-Saint-Denis.
Designed by the architect and hydraulic engineer Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban, this pond was dug in 1684 to create the water features and ditches needed to supply the basins and water features of the Château de Versailles. Since 1977, it has no longer been used to supply water to Versailles; today, it's a peaceful place to take a stroll. Nearly 266 plant species have been recorded here, as well as 96 bird species, including both sedentary and migratory breeders. It's also a popular fishing spot for its variety of fish.
