LA HUBLOTIÈRE - VILLA BERTHE
Sumptuous villa of Art Nouveau style built in millstone, stones and bricks in Le Vésinet.
This sumptuous Art Nouveau villa was designed by architect Hector Guimard in 1896; it is the first Art Nouveau villa of the man known for its stylized Parisian subway entrances, and for some magnificent buildings in the capital. Built in millstone, stone and brick, the house is both massive in size and graceful and light in its curves. It is accessed through a wrought iron entrance gate with fine, slender lines, where the "whiplash" curve that characterizes Guimard's work is found. Its four facades are very different, the front being as symmetrical as the back is not. The villa is on three levels, offering a living space of 375 m2, also entirely designed by Guimard. It was included in the supplementary inventory of Historic Monuments in 1979. Every summer, from July to September, the gates of the Hublotière - so called because of the many openings that open up its facade - are open to the public as part of guided tours led by guest speakers, an opportunity to learn a little more about the building's exterior architecture and to discover the gardens that surround the property.
