COLOMBIER DE LA MALADRERIE DE COMTESSE
Dovecote of the "maladerie de Comtesse", the only remnant of the old town, used to house leprosy patients.
The dovecote is the only vestige of a "maladrerie" (or sickhouse) built on the outskirts of the old town to care for lepers. Comprising a hospital, guesthouse and cemetery, it was established in the 12th century by the Countess of Meulan, Agnès de Montfort. Damaged during the Hundred Years' War, it was transferred to the Hôtel-Dieu de Meulan by Louis XIV. The last buildings, in ruins, were demolished in 1982, with the exception of the dovecote, which was restored.
