CELESTIAL CASTLE
Former monastery turned neoclassical château, now a private group home. View over the Seine valley.
Until 1371, the gallows of the Mante bailiwick stood on this site, linked to the chapel of Sainte-Christine by a cloister. Following construction work, King Charles V issued a charter for the foundation of the Célestins monastery, and the monks officially took up residence here in 1377, until the order was dissolved in 1779. Demolished during the French Revolution, the site eventually became the neo-classical château acquired by the Lefébure family in 1912. Built at the foot of the Saint-Sauveur forest, it offers a breathtaking view over the Seine valley.
