ST. STEPHEN'S CHURCH
The Saint-Etienne church of Mantises-la-Ville was founded in 974, and its millennium was rediscovered in 1974, making it the oldest building in the municipality. The origins of this Romanesque church are relatively unknown; however, the inner structure of the nave can be observed, and in particular the very old "fish bones" apparatus which dates back to the th century. The primitive apse was replaced by a cut-off choir. Outside, the walls of the steeple are we of important foothills that suggest that the building was planned higher than it is today. Damaged during the bombings of the Second World War, it was restored from 1968 to 1981, and restored its original vault in chestnut trees.
