THE CASTLE OF MEDAN
The château has been awarded the Maison des Illustres label by the French Ministry of Culture
A former hunting lodge built at the end of the 15th century on very old foundations, and frequented by Pierre de Ronsard and the poets of the Pléiade. It inspired Paul Cézanne, who painted Le Château de Médan between 1879-85, and played host to Maurice Maeterlinck, winner of the Nobel Prize for Literature, who wrote much of his work there between 1924-39. Abandoned, it became the printing site for the newspaper Combat until the August 30, 1974 issue. Sold at public auction in 1977, then restored by its current owners, it has finally been restored to its 15th-century appearance.
