MERICOURT DAM
If you drive on the south shore of the Seine between Rolleboise and Méricourt, stop for a moment in front of this lock dam because the wind of history has gone through it. It was here in August 1944 that the American troops landing from Normandy sailed the River for the first time. A narrow passage that this walkway crosses the dam but enough to then establish a head of bridge on the north shore of the Seine. It was in 1886 that this book was inaugurated. It is made up of two large locks, the largest measuring 185 m long for 30 m wide. The difference in level between the two bays is 4 m in normal time. The dam has 5 valves that are used to regulate the Seine level from Meulan. It makes it possible for high-tonnage vessels to go up the river to the capital.
