PONT AUX PERCHES
Discover the history of the Petit Pont de Meulan, a bridge that has been full of secrets for nearly eight centuries.
If you're walking on this bridge spanning the Seine and linking Ile du Fort to the town center, you should know that it was built in 1150 by Galéran II, Count of Meulan. Also known as the Petit Pont de Meulan, this 100 m bridge was once extended by the town's Grand Pont, before the latter was destroyed by bombing in 1944. At the time, it was a highly profitable toll crossing, linking the Cherbourg, Calais and Dunkirk roads with those further south. It was finally abolished in 1840. Classified as a Historic Monument in 1965.
