High castle offering a panoramic view, located near the Anne de Bretagne tower with a flamboyant gothic style door
Of the ancient castle built in the 11th century by Simon I de Montfort, all that remains today are a few vestiges of the keep. The building, destroyed in the 14th century, was celebrated by Victor Hugo in his Ode aux Ruines. This admirable site, 185 m above sea level, offers a panoramic view of the town and its forest. Nearby, you can still admire the Anne-de-Bretagne tower with its flamboyant Gothic gate. In the center of town, the 16th-century Porte Bardoul served as the entrance to the château. The town's southern ramparts date back to the 11th century.
