THE FORT OF SAINT-CYR
After the military disasters caused by the 1870 war and the siege of Paris, the capital system of the capital was strengthened, and a series of forts built around the city. Construction of the Fort of St. Cyr began in 1875, and the army settled there in 1879. Thanks to its reserves, it has three months'autonomy for food and six months for water, which may prove crucial in the event of a conflict. With an area of 22 hectares, it is a strategic place for monitoring and controlling the roads of the area. During the First World War, the Saint-Cyr Fort continued to play a leading role in the defence of the capital. During the inter-war period, the premises served as premises at the military and depot meteorological service for ammunition and explosives, and then a civil school of meteorology settled there in 1944. Attached to the Ministry of Culture since 1982, its premises now host photographic archival funds, which benefit from the temperature stability of partially buried premises.
