MUSEUM OF THE CITY OF SAINT-QUENTIN-EN-YVELINES
A museum telling the unique story of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines and its twelve communes.
Located in the heart of Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines, and relocated since 2017 to new premises next to the canal media library, the city museum tells the singular story of this new conurbation. The permanent exhibition space "Once upon a time in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines" is a veritable time machine, retracing the four major periods in the transformation of this plateau with its twelve communes, over a period of 21 centuries of history. Game books and digital tablets enable children to explore the exhibition at their own pace. Numerous objects, maps, aerial photographs, old postcards and interactive terminals are brought together here as clues to the changes that have taken place in this region. The museum also organizes temporary exhibitions: very much oriented towards contemporary art, they are different every season and tackle themes as varied as lifestyles, art, design, architecture, urbanism and ecology. The sites also promote the heritage of the entire conurbation, under the "Ville et Pays d'art et d'histoire" label. Tours, workshops and events during the Journées du Patrimoine and the Nuit des Musées are offered for all publics. Until February 2024, there is a temporary exhibition devoted to lighting fixtures from the 1960s to the 1980s; free admission. A striking location for an equally striking new town!
