SAINTFORT ORATORY
A rural oratory on a historic site in Poigny-la-Forêt, where a miraculous spring once gushed forth. A place of pilgrimage.
Renovated in 2014 and inaugurated during the traditional annual Saint-Fort festival at Pentecost, this small country oratory bears witness to an ancient devotion. Around the year 300, Saint Fort, bishop of Bordeaux, crossed the Yveline forest on his way to Lutetia. It was there that he came across a crippled child in tears: making a spring gush forth, he told the child to bathe in it, and the child recovered. The oratory stands on the site of this legendary spring. For a long time, the site attracted crowds of pilgrims on Whit Monday.
