Balade historique à vélo entre Rambouillet et Méré
Go there and contact
Although a little long (2h30), it is an easy route and quite feasible with the family. To the rhythm of your pedal strokes, it invites you to discover the testimonies of history, from the 13th to the 21st century. Leaving from the Royal Town of Rambouillet, labelled Ville d'Art et d'Histoire (Town of Art and History), you will stop at the castle, acquired by Louis XVI in 1783 to indulge one of his passions: hunting. The former royal estate is now a presidential estate. Then, you will join a cycle path that will take you through the Rambouillet state-owned forest, where you will discover the fauna and flora, but also a historical and archaeological heritage, such as the Neolithic dolmen of the table known as "du Roy". The forest also includes numerous ponds and gullies created at the end of the 17th century to supply the ponds and fountains of the Château de Versailles. Finally, in Montfort l'Amaury, a small medieval town, you will discover the church and its 16th century glass canopies, its old mass grave, the ruins of the medieval castle of the Counts of Montfort and the Anne of Brittany Tower.
