CHURCH OF SAINT GILLES AND THE ASSUMPTION
Church accessible by stone staircase, former feudal chapel. Wall paintings and chapel of the Princes of Rohan.
A former feudal chapel, this church occupies a dominant position on a rocky terrace accessed by a steep stone staircase. Built in the 12th century, it was dedicated to the hermit Saint Gilles, and was given the Assumption title in 1883. In the early 17th century, the Princes of Rohan-Rochefort had the church decorated with murals, and the "Princes' Chapel" served as the family's burial chapel until 1793.
