CHÂTEAU DE GUI LE ROUGE
Remains of the fortified castle include an enclosure, the main gate and a postern with a stunner
A veritable Gallic oppidum, this fortified castle was built on the return from the Crusades of Gui de Monthléry, known as le Rouge, seneschal to King Philippe I and Count of Rochefort. Overlooking the village, it dominated the Rémarde and Rabette valleys. The fortress was destroyed in 1428, then definitively abandoned after the Wars of Religion. Today, it's nothing but ruins, surrounded by trees. Remains include an enclosure, the main gate not far from the church, and a postern with stunner.
