CHÂTEAU DU HAUT-ROSAY
red-brick château. A private residence that can only be visited on Heritage Days.
This red brick château with white stone quoins was built in 1615 for Jean Courtin, secretary to Louis XIII. It replaced the former fortified castle overlooking the Vaucouleurs valley. In 1748, it was acquired by the owner of Château de Magnanville, Charles Savalette, and sold in 1760 to Jacques Louis de Brétignières, the last Marquis de Rosay-Villette. He commissioned the architect Denis Antoine to carry out interior renovations and transformed the park into a picturesque garden. Today, it belongs to a private family.
