SULLY STATUE
From the top of its 4,30 m for 15 tons, the work of white marble of Jean-Joseph Espercieux representing Maximilian of Béthune, alias the Duke of Sully, is a heavy weight. On an order by Louis XVIII, who wished to honour twelve illustrious men from the ancient monarchy, the sculptor realized it in 1817. It was installed a little more than ten years later on the Pont de la Concorde, before joining the railings of the Cour d'honneur at the Château de Versailles, where it stayed until 1931. Finally, on July 14 of the same year, marble Sully was proposed to the municipality and found its current place at the entrance to the city.
