This building housed many military institutions before becoming a high school
Françoise d'Aubigné, who received the marquisate of Maintenon in 1674, created in 1686 the Maison Royale de Saint-Louis at Saint-Cyr, a school for the education of young noble girls with no money. After the death of the King, she withdrew there and for thirty years watched over nearly 3,000 young ladies from good families, and wrote instructions for teachers and students. The building then hosted many military institutions before becoming a high school: hospital, prytanée and then a special imperial school under the instigation of Napoleon, military college.
