GARDEN OF THE DEPARTMENTAL MUSEUM MAURICE-DENIS LE PRIEURÉ
The garden of the former home of the painter Maurice Denis (1870 - 1943) - who loved to retreat in a green cabinet called «La Solitude» - inspires serenity, sometimes mystery, and concentrated on three levels. Animated by sculptures by Antoine Bourdelle, the upper level, with the atmosphere inspired by the "Books of Italy", consists of a long terrace of plain with the facade. The intermediate level is complemented by a rose garden and a large green theatre. Finally, in the lower part, a basin and a fountain add to the whole. In free access, the garden tour is the occasion of a pleasant spring stop outside the hustle and bustle of the city. In addition to the visit of the museum, it allows to understand the report of the work of the painter à to nature and constitutes in itself a small open museum.
